A note of thanks for the great response we have received for our Food Fund for the families of our preschool kids that are suffering very hard times in Guatemala due to COVID-19. Unfortunately, the Guatemalan government does not provide aid or food distribution programs for the many people in need. A large percentage of Guatemalans work in the informal sector, which means they are likely to be day laborers or street vendors, especially in the areas where we work. Guatemala has instituted severe shelter in place regulations, has shut down all forms of transportation, and has closed all borders. What this means is that there is very little work, no tourists to sell to, and a lot of hungry people.
We, with your interest and contributions, have been able to send hundreds of dollars to Guatemala to fund our program to help feed dozens of families in our communities. We are stuck here in the states, but we have dedicated and resourceful teachers who receive the money transfers, buy the food, and see that it gets to the families. They are our “heroes”. They make this food program function and function very well. And, it’s all of you that provide the wherewithal to make it possible.
Thank you very much – you’re wonderful! We are hoping to continue funding this food program and welcome your continued support.
