February 2019

May 18, 2019 by Janice Stradford

During our 1st week in Guatemala in January, we attended a training for preschool teachers in Antigua. One of Project Quetzal’s teachers was a presenter. We also checked in on our 4 projects, and they are all doing great!

But the exciting news was setting up a new preschool with a new teacher. She did all the work before we got there: talked to the parents and to the community, and found the location. We raised money to outfit her classroom and to pay her salary. We had a great time buying a white board, tables and chairs, rugs, puzzles, books, etc. She attended a preschool teacher training the last week in January and opened her doors to 14 smiling, happy faces on February 4th!

We also started a new after-school tutorial class in the same school as one of our other tutorial classes, so children from 1st through 3rd grades can receive the necessary help.

Now Project Quetzal has a total of 6 projects!
